Why this manifesto exists

Bitcoin is not a product. Bitcoin is not an "investment vehicle". Bitcoin is a tool for sovereignty.

In this video I walk you through the philosophical roots of Bitcoin: The Cypherpunk Manifesto.

The Bitcoin ethos originates from the cypherpunk movement: resistance to control, surveillance, and external authority – not as a pose, but as practice.

1) Hold your own keys

A core principle of the cypherpunks is sovereignty. By controlling your own private keys, you control your Bitcoin.

Whoever gives up their keys gives up responsibility. And responsibility surrendered does not come back.

2) Run a Bitcoin node

Your own node strengthens the network through decentralization. You become a direct network participant and can verify transactions independently, without having to trust any third party.

Not "someone tells you what is true" – but: you verify it yourself.

3) Defend privacy

Privacy is essential to protect personal freedom and prevent excessive surveillance by governments or corporations.

Without privacy there is no free choice. Without free choice there is no sovereignty.

4) Support open source

Contribute to open-source projects. This not only preserves the cypherpunk spirit of collaboration, it also helps build robust, decentralized tools that respect and protect privacy and autonomy.

Trust no code you cannot audit.

5) Educate yourself and others

Make sure you understand the Bitcoin fundamentals. Share this knowledge with others to foster a society that understands and respects the core cypherpunk principles.

The more informed and active participants, the stronger the movement.
